Cleaning Up Your Websites

Up to 20% of your final grade will be based on your overall website. Make sure you follow these tips

Keep all of these points in mind as you begin finalizing your websites:

  • Your websites are now your main communication with me. Make sure they are complete with working hyperlinks to all of your work.
  • Link to everything that’s important. Use relative links to refer to pages, images, stylesheets on your own site. Only use absolute links to refer to external pages. (Exception: Master Grade Sheet - open links to assignments in a new tab)
  • Create meaningful page titles for each page. (No "Untitled" pages!)
  • Make sure all of your links work. This is critical. You'll lose major points for non-working relative links.
  • Build landing pages for projects with multiple pages.
  • Your personal Master Grade Sheet on your site should be up to date.
  • Design. Design. Design. Don’t leave your pages as we constructed them in class. Use CSS and Tables to achieve the look you want. If you want to reconstruct your projects site, you can get some free templates here. If you need help implementing them, just ask me.
  • Create Home links on each page (or use a standard navigation bar across each page). "Remember the Chickens!" You can use this template and CSS if you want.
  • Make sure your navigation is consistent from page to page. Try to apply a theme to your site.
