Week 1
Introduction to Building and Maintaining Websites
Let's make some websites!
Welcome to the class! You're going to enjoy yourself this semester. You'll uncover perhaps some hidden talents, or sharpen the ones you already have.
We'll start at the beginning of the web (did you know the World Wide Web had an actual birthday?.... and the Internet turned 50 years of age in 2019?). Then we'll take it right up to today's methods for creating websites.
This week, we'll go over some protocols, expectations, and setups. You'll compose your first web page in the language of the web, HTML.
It will be a fun journey, the end of which will see you completely understanding what's behind a web page, how a website is built, and the skills you need to take it all to your next level.

What are we doing in Week 1?
Here are some things we’ll cover in our first week:
- Do you know the difference between the internet and the web? (Betcha didn’t know there was a difference, did you?)
- Can you actually create a web page by just typing?
- How long did the first telegraphs take to send a message?
- How fast is our internet today by comparison?
You’ll get an overview of what the whole "710-experience" will look like when you’re finished. We’ll set up our communications methods — very, very important!!
